Who are the favorites to win in Oakland?
12 elite teams are participating in IEM Oakland 2017, 9 of them received an invitation while the rest of them had to qualify for the event. For those who are looking to bet on this event, it’s a good idea to do some research on the teams first. That’s why we’ve taken a closer look at the favorites to win in Oakland. But, let’s check out the groups first:
Group A – SK, NiP, Cloud9, TheMongolz, Astralis, EnVyUs
Group B – G2, FaZe, Liquid, Gambit, Renegades, Optic
Picking out favorites with a starting field as such isn’t an easy task. However, we’re expecting to see significant plays from SK Gaming, FaZe and Astralis.
SK is no longer the number one team in the world, that spot has been taken over by the international team FaZe. But, the Brazilians have been looking amazing the last two events, they won EPICENTER 2017 just two weeks ago. They will reclaim the #1 spot in the world rankings if they can continue to perform well. With the recent win in EPICENTER 2017, they are clear favorites in IEM Oakland 2017. Standing in their way are teams such as FaZe and Astralis, so it won’t be a walk in the park.
Recent results: 1st EPICENTER 2017, 3rd ESL One New York 2017, 3rd ESG Tour Mykonos 2017.
FaZe has had an incredible start since they acquired the superstars GuardiaN and Olofmeister, they have even claimed the first position in the world rankings. They dominated ESL One New York 2017 in great fashion. However, their latest performance in EPICENTER 2017 was lackluster, where they ended up with a 5-6 placement. We’re eager to see what they can bring to Oakland, are we going to witness a reply from ESL One New York or have they competitors figured out how they play?
Recent results: 1st ESL One New York 2017, 1st ELEAGUE CS:GO Premier 2017, 3rd ESL One Cologne 2017.
It’s been a while since Astralis managed to win a tournament, but they have at least a few top placements in their baggage. Astralis is still a top 4 team in the world thanks to reaching playoffs at several tournaments. A tournament win is needed though if they want to stay at the top, IEM Oakland is an excellent event for the Danish squad to prove themselves.
Recent results: 2nd ELEAGUE CS:GO Premier 2017, 3rd PGL Major Krakow, 3rd ECS Season 3 Finals.
