G2 Esports vs Vega Squadron Match Predictions

Vega Squadron IEM Katowice 2019

When

13th of February 2019 at 14:20 GMT +1

The Format

This week the Main Qualifiers for IEM Katowice 2019 will take place. This is where the 16 teams in the Challenger stage will battle it out. They all have hopes of being one of the eight teams that advance through to the Legends stage.

During this Challengers stage, each team needs to pick up 3 wins to advance to the Legends stage. On the other hand, if a team were to lose 3 games, then they will be knocked out of the competition.

How they match up

Both G2 and Vega have automatically qualified for the Challengers stage thanks to their performance at previous events throughout 2018. G2 rank 15th in the world. Meanwhile, Vega are ranked slightly behind at 24th.

The public are struggling to decide who will come out on top of this match with it being a 60:40 split in favour of G2 Esports.

G2 Esports

G2 are the second-best team in France and will be hoping to get things rolling smoothly again. This is after a heavy mix of results throughout the 2018 season. They could encounter some difficulties depending on how the bracket falls. Despite this, they are being favoured as one of the eight teams to advance.

Vega Squadron

Vega are an organisation that has retained the same core of players since their first  event back in 2016 where they failed to qualify for the major. Since then they have made it to the top 16 stages in the past 3 majors.

This teams’ story is the same at every event. They come into the event with a lower ranking due to their lack of attendance at LAN events throughout the year. They then go on to provide surprises and upsets during their run in the tournament. Will they be able to do the same again starting with G2?

The Prediction

I have used Betway to gather the odds for this upcoming match. Here are the odds on who will come out on top:

  • G2 Esports at 1.50
  • Vega Squadron at 2.40

While there’s not much separating these teams, we could very well see Vega pulling off the upset against G2. With world rankings being affected due to Vega not attending as many events, you may be able to take advantage of the higher odds.
