Two of the highest placing teams from the recent Major face off against each other in the opening round of games. We see the formidable Brazilians MiBR face off against ENCE. ENCE recently put in a historic performance at IEM Katowice 2019.
This is a powerhouse team still struggling to find success. They managed to reach the semi-finals at IEM Katowice last month. Their run ended abruptly when they went against Astralis, who went on to win the Major.
They had the perfect opportunity to take home a Championship earlier this month. They attended the WESG 2018 Grand Finals. An event that many top teams pulled out, due to needing a break after Katowice.
MiBR had a comfortable group stage, and start to bracket play. They managed to reach the Quarterfinals before they were upset by Windigo Gaming. Windigo took this momentum and proceeded to win the event. If MiBR couldn’t take that opportunity to win, how well can they do here?
After a miracle run at Katowice, this team will be hungry to keep playing at such a high level. ENCE came into Katowice in the Challengers Stage. They had to work through Challengers and Legends, scrapping their way through both. This landed them a spot in the final 8, in Champions Stage.
They pulled off two of the biggest upsets we’ve seen in recent times. They showed Liquid up in the Quarterfinals, taking a 2-0 victory. Keep in mind Liquid was the 2nd favourite to win the event. They then moved into the semi-final against NaVi.
ENCE took the lead in the series but were quickly brought back to reality when NaVi dismantled them 16-3 on Dust II. It came down to Mirage, and ENCE found themselves 12-6 down. They pulled off the comeback and secured a spot in the grand finals. They fell short against Astralis, and now will be wanting another stab at dethroning the Champions.
I’m all for ENCE in this matchup. With it being a Best of 1, there’s no margin for error. You can get 2.57 odds for ENCE to win the series. With the momentum that ENCE will have after Katowice, matched with MiBR’s poor performance at WESG, I think they’ll edge this one out.
