The International 2018, the biggest esports event on this planet, is finally upon us. And August 15th is the date to keep an eye out for if you want to follow TI8 from the group stage and onwards. It will be held in Vancouver, Canada, where 18 teams will battle it out for the incredible prize pool of $25,000,000.
Dota 2 The International 2018 is the eighth annual edition of The International. During this past season, the teams have, by competing in tournaments, collected Pro Circuit Points (which was introduced last year). These points decide which teams to receive an invitation, and this concept is actually new as it previously was Valve who choose which teams to get hold of an invitation.
Prestige and many million dollars are on the line in Vancouver, and this opens up for plenty hair-raising Dota 2 matches. That also means that a bunch of sportsbooks will update their esports offering with TI8 odds.

As the prize pool increases annually and the teams are getting more and more competitive, TI8 is, of course, expected to outdo last year’s competition. Simultaneously, esports is getting more recognition amongst bookmakers, so nowadays you have a great deal of betting options to choose from for The International. A few examples are – outright winner, match winner and special odds such as first blood, correct score etc. Furthermore, you can also place bets meanwhile a match is live.
Who will win TI8?
Placing money on an outright winner of a tournament is one of the more common ways of wagering. This is far from the easiest betting option as many top teams are attending this event. However, if you do your research, you stand a chance of winning a good amount of money.

Dota 2 TI8 betting options
Although outright winner bets can be fun, mixing things up by trying out other betting options can add an extra layer of excitement. However, not all bookmakers offer a wide range of options. But, with that said, a bookie that do provide lots of esports betting options is Betway, here you can choose between a bunch of different odds. Below we’ve listed examples of various ways to bet on The International 8.
Region of Winner
Which is the best region? Many consider China and Europe to be the leading regions right now because many top teams come from these part of the world. Consequently, teams hearing from these regions have the lowest odds. You’ll get 2.90 times your money if a team from China wins TI8, and 3.10 if a European team go all the way.
Top European Team
For this alternative, you put your money on the European team you believe will go the furthest in The International 8. Out of the European teams, we must say that Team Liquid are heavily favored, leaving them with 1.35 in odds.
Top Chinese Team
Same as above, but in this case, you bet on a Chinese team. China has lots of teams that will compete in Canada, actually more than any other region. The two standout names here are without a doubt PSG.LGD and Vici Gaming, both are contenders for bringing home the trophy.
Best Placed Swedish National
This option is pretty unusual, as far as we know, Betway is the only bookie offering these type of bets. The idea here is to bet on a player based on nationality that you think will outlast his fellow countrymen. Superstar player s4 is the favorite here, and you will double your money if he reaches further than the other Swedes at ti8. He’s joined by pieliedie, Pajkatt and Zai, all of which are outstanding players who will give s4 a run for his money.
Best Placed Danish National
Besides betting on the Swedish participants, you can also bet on players from Denmark. Many excellent players origins from Denmark, where Ace from Team Secret is the most well-known one, together with Cr1t- playing for Evil Genius.
All of these betting options + many more are available at Betway, including live betting and special bets on specific matches during ti8.

This year’s TI is anticipated to be the toughest one yet; all elite Dota 2 teams have prepared for this particular event for a long time. There are foremost three teams that have looked impressive this season, and we’ve taken a closer look at them below.
Please note that the odds presented in this article could have changed since it was published.
Team Liquid has been great this season leading to TI, as they have managed to collect more Pro Circuit Points than most team, only Virtus.pro is better in that aspect. Today, Liquid consists of MATUMBAMAN, Miracle-, MinD_ContRoL, GH, KuroKy and coach Heen. They’re the current TI champions and have continued to win tournaments which makes them one of the favorites come out on top this year too.
Virtus.pro had to settle with a 5-6 placing last TI, not a too pleasing result for a team at this calibre. But they have really stepped up since then, claiming several tournament victories, such as ESL One Birgmingham 2018 and The Bucharest Major. And more recently, China Dota2 Supermajor, where VP reached the finals and lost to Liquid. With their results past months in mind we strongly believe VP has a realistic shot of bringing home the TI8 trophy.
Lastly, we have PSG.LGD, one of the greatest team in China at the moment. Their best placing at The International was the third place, back in 2015. At the last year’s edition of TI, they finished 4th. Since then, LGD has improved a lot, and they have two tournament victories just the two previous months. And their biggest win has to be EPICENTER XL where they defeated Team Liquid. LGD has proven to be good enough to challenge the very top teams of the Dota 2 competitive scene and will be a real threat at TI2018.
