Schedule & Important Dates

The StarLadder Major will take place between August 23rd and September 5th 2019. The event is split into 3 stages and revolves around the classic Swiss Format tournament structure. These stages are named as follows, The New Challengers Stage, The New Legends Stage and The New Champions Stage. These stages whittle the teams down to the final two for the grand final.

The New Challengers Stage – August 23rd – 26th, 2019

This stage consists of a 16 team Swiss Format, with BO1 matches. Elimination and progression matches are BO3 and a total of 8 teams will move forward to the New Legends Stage, the bottom 8 teams will be eliminated.

The New Legends Stage – August 28th – September 1st, 2019

Much like the New Challengers Stage, there are 16 teams present in this stage, all games are BO1 apart from elimination and progression matches which are once again, BO3. The top 8 teams move forward to the New Champions Stage and the bottom 8 teams are eliminated.

The New Champions Stage – September 5th – 8th, 2019

This stage is a bit different to the rest, it is a single elimination bracket rather than the Swiss Format, the Quarter and Semi-Finals are BO3 and the Grand Final is also a BO3.

StarLadder Major 2019 Tips & Predictions

Now let’s get onto the juicy stuff, with the top talents from around the world all heading to Germany for a chance to lift the highest trophy in Counter Strike, you can bet it will be 2 weeks of top tier gameplay. Let’s take a look at the top teams and the odds behind them taking the trophy.

Team Liquid (#1 HLTV Ranking)

Liquid have been at the top of their game recently; they’ve won several LAN events in a row after the addition of Stewie2k to their roster. They look set to win the Berlin Major after beating teams like Astralis and Vitality in recent events.

The playstyle that Liquid brings to the table is based upon accuracy, this allows them to find opening kills through being aggressive and shutting down opponents before they have a chance to set up strategies or site executes. They also have an extremely strong anti-eco which can counter the damaging effects of losing two or three rounds to a full-buy opponent.

Astralis (#3 HLTV Ranking)

Although Astralis aren’t considered the best team in the world right now, they had an unstoppable reign in 2018. They were undoubtedly the best team and only after Liquid have begun to take the top spot away, have we been able to see a weakness in the Danish defence. The team claimed Major titles in the past and when it comes to a huge event like this, you never know what’s going to happen in the long run.

Astralis’ strong defensive strategies on maps such as Nuke allow them to gain a map advantage over other teams that haven’t put as much preparation into games as Astralis. They are now the 3rd ranking in the world according to HLTV but are still a major contender in Berlin.

Vitality (#2 HLTV Ranking)

This French super roster has been criticized lately due to their inefficiency on eco rounds as well as losing guaranteed rounds versus pistol players. There also claims that the team is based upon older players which are not at their peak anymore, this may be true but the experience combined with the young raw talent of ZyWOo makes Vitality a huge contender alongside the likes of Astralis and Liquid.

ENCE (#4 HLTV Ranking)

Once an almost joke of a team, ENCE have shown that they are certainly a contender for a Major trophy and Berlin could be their chance to shine. It would certainly make a change for a Finnish roster. They have made great victories against teams like Astralis in the past but have failed to beat Liquid and Vitality recently so it may be a longshot to back the Fins in Berlin.

Na`Vi (#7 HLTV Ranking)

Na`Vi seems like one of those teams where the Major victory will never come their way with s1mple on the roster. He’s been carrying and doing his best along with electronic and Flamie but they just can’t seem to get the job done. Sometimes they will be on top form, winning everything then just getting unlucky in the finals or they just fail to turn up to the event with s1mples aggressive all-round style seemingly the only thing that is consistent with the team.

Na`Vi will surely be looking to win in Berlin as they need the boost in confidence to get them back on track. The new addition Boombl4 should hopefully make up for the slack that Edward was giving the team and we may see a whole different team in a couple of weeks.
