Atlanta Reign announce McDonalds sponsorship

The Professional Overwatch League team, Atlanta Reign, announced today that they have locked down a sponsorship with McDonald’s. Despite being April 1st (April Fools) and the history of organisations mocking new teams, sponsors etc this does appear to be a legitimate sponsorship.

What the sponsorship entails

As it stands not too many details have been released regarding the specifics in the sponsorship, but we can imagine that McDonald’s will become the one of, if not, the headline sponsor for the Atlanta Reign.

As part of the new partnership, from now until April 6th you will be offered $0 delivery fees on orders over $15 and through McDelivery. The delivery service links to both DoorDash and UberEats, with the user being able to select which they would prefer.

How could this impact the esports industry

Each time a big player steps into the esports industry either for the first time or deeper, there is always a bit of a buzz. We’ve seen the buzz in the past when the likes of Drake invested into 100 Thieves.

It is only a positive to see McDonald’s entering the space with this sponsorship, as it creates a pathway and initiative for companies outside the esports realm to take the dive in.
