Following the delay of several CSGO events, including the ESL One Rio event that was set to take place from 11th – 24th May, there has been a major shuffle in how games are being played. The ESL One Major was postponed to November and an online competition called Road to Rio has launched to determine who will be in attendance.

ESL One Road to Rio

This is a fantastic way to determine the teams that will be attending the biggest event of the year at this point. With most tournaments and events now taking place online or being cancelled, it is going to be a weird year for CS:GO.

A couple of days ago the regional groups were announced for the Road to Rio event taking place online from April 22nd to May 17th.

Event Format

Group Stage: April 22nd – May 10th, 2020

  • Two round-robin format groups
  • Each group has 8 teams
  • All teams play each other once
  • All matches are Bo3
  • Top 2 teams from each group proceed to the UB
  • Next 2 teams from each group proceed to the LB

    Playoffs:

  • Double-Elimination bracket
  • All matches (excl. Grand Final) are Bo3

With there being so many teams competing, one of the benefits of it being online, we should see some great games. With the potential for upsets and nail biters throughout the entire group stages, we recommend watching as many games as possible.
