This past weekend in Sin City, Optic Gaming reclaimed their throne as Call of Duty Champions. The roster consisting of Scump, Crimsix, Karma, Dashy and TJHaly had an impressive showing this weekend by not losing a single series.
Optic set the expectations high after starting Day 1 of pool play with a 3-0 record following a 3-0 victory over both G2 and Pittsburgh Knights and a 3-1 win over Splyce. They topped this off with another 3-0 win over Excelerate to finish pool play 4-0 and would advance to the Winners bracket quarterfinals where they would face off against Luminosity.
Once again Optic won the series with a 3-0 sweep to end Day 2 of CWL Vegas, meaning they would advance to Championship Sunday where they would meet EUnited in the Winners bracket semi-final. EUnited didn’t make it easy for Optic, with most maps going down to the wire but Optic still managed to take the series 3-1 and advance to Winners bracket finals to play Splyce again.
The Winners bracket final started with a shock, Splyce took a 2-0 lead in the series after two convincing performances, at this point most fans were expecting Optic to drop to Losers bracket, however, they pulled off the reverse sweep to win 3-2 and book a spot in the grand final for later that night.
Splyce then dropped to Losers bracket where they would play EUnited with the winner having the chance to get revenge in the grand final for their losses to Optic earlier on at the event. This was a highly contested series that went all the way to last map, EUnited came out victorious and would now need to win two series back to back to become CWL Vegas Champions.
Optic obviously had plans to wrap things up quickly as they hit EUnited with the 3-0 sweep in grand finals and were crowned Champions. This was the start to the season that Optic and their fans were in desperate need of following how disappointing the previous season was for them.
Congratulations to the Optic Gaming players, staff and fans on an incredible run this past weekend at CWL Vegas.
