StarSeries Season 7 Round 1 Recap

The opening day on StarSeries Season 7 lived up to the expectations. Teams finding their expected form and others pulling off huge upsets. I’ve picked out the key games to recap.

NRG vs. North

The opening matchup was a tricky one to predict. Despite this, many had North as their favourites to win the series. The Danish roster of North have so much explosive talent and have been on top in the past.

It was fully expected that North was going to turn up to this event and make a statement that they still have the capability to reach the later stages of tournaments. NRG had planned to redeem their early exit from Katowice.

NRG found themselves down 1-0 in the series, after a 16-14 loss on Inferno. They battled through Dust II to pull off a 16-13 win and push it to the last map. They then shocked everyone, winning Train 16-0 to beat North.

NaVi vs. ViCi Gaming

NaVi came into this league as favourites to lift the trophy on April 7th. With their opening game against ViCi Gaming, it was thought they would have an easy enough start to the event. ViCi Gaming had different plans, pulling off an insanely impressive 16-3 win on Inferno to kick off the series.

NaVi snapped back. It must have hit them quite how dangerous starting this league 0-1 could be. They looked convincing on Train, taking a 16-6 win. At this point, it was believed that NaVi would have full control of the series.

ViCi pulled off the biggest upset of the event thus far. They picked NaVi apart on Nuke for a 16-7 win.

Conclusion

Based on how the opening day of Season 7 went, we should be in for a treat over the next week of competition. Can NaVi climb back into the event? Will North find their footing? Who will cause the next upset?
