WESG 2018 Grand Finals Recap

Following an amazing start of the year with the Major in Katowice. We now head to Chongqing for the WESG 2018 Grand Finals. With March being filled with events, some teams opted to pull out of this event.

Who Advanced from Groups

A – G2 and Singularity,

B – Valiance and Optic,

C – MiBR and AGO,

D – Absolute and Furious,

E – Windigo and Fnatic,

F – Panda Gaming and Team Russia,

G – TNC Predator and Team Ukraine,

H – Viva Algeria and Alpha Red

I think it’s fair to say that most of these advancements were expected, especially with major names like ENCE and NiP pulling out of the event last minute.

Round of 16

Yesterday the Round of 16 games kicked off and we moved to a Best of 3 series format. Each game went as expected in my opinion. There were clear favourites in each match and every series finished 2-0. Results can be seen below:

  • G2 2-0 Panda Gaming,
  • Absolute 2-0 TNC Predator,
  • MiBR 2-0 Viva Algeria,
  • Windigo 2-0 Furious,
  • Team Ukraine 0-2 AGO,
  • Valiance 2-0 Singularity,
  • Alpha Red 0-2 OpTic,
  • Team Russia 0-2 Fnatic

Quarter Finals

Earlier today we saw the Quarter Final matches took place. Fnatic handed OpTic a 2-0 loss which sent them home, this was possibly the most interesting match of the day. AGO had a close series with Valiance but edged it out in a 2-1 win.

The upset of the day came whenever MiBR lost 2-1 against Windigo. With how well Windigo have performed in this tournament, they could very well be favourites now. The final game of the day was G2 against Absolute. G2 took the series incredibly comfortably with a 2-0 win.

Semi-Finals

The semi-final match-ups are now confirmed. We will see:

Fnatic vs AGO,

Windigo vs G2

We will have predictions for these games with betting odds shortly.
