Possibly one of the most anticipated opening matches at IEM Katowice 2020 will consist of FaZe and NaVi battling it out. These are two of the powerhouse organisations within CS:GO that are hoping to create another dynasty.

NaVi

NaVi have been building up the hopes and dreams of their fans and then breaking their hearts on a regular basis in the past couple of years. Whilst they have come out victorious on some occasions, they have lacked consistently when it comes to the biggest stages.

This is becoming especially painful when they have S1mple on their team, who is argued as one of the best players of all time. They have made roster changes recently, getting rid of Guardian who they recently acquired from FaZe and have thrown in some young guns.

The hope seems to be lying on S1mple, combined with two veterans in Flamie and Electronic and their young explosive talent in Boombl4 and Perfecto. This formula had a shaky start at Blast Premier, losing 2-0 to Vitality but bounced back with wins against Astralis, Vitality and Complexity to top their group.

FaZe

Despite FaZe seeing success at events throughout the 2019 season, the team became the victim of their own downfalls and become a bit of a meme. This was until they made the drastic decision to reshuffle their roster, something many fans and analysts had been suggested for a long time.

This reshuffle seen them keep the core of Rain, Niko and Olofmeister but they acquired Coldzera from MiBR and also brought in young-gun Broky on loan, which now seems to be a permanent fixture.

They had an incredibly impressive showing at Blast Premier at the beginning of February, going unbeaten with wins against NiP and Liquid (twice).

Prediction

Whilst both these teams topped their groups at Blast Premier Spring, the slow start shown from NaVi puts some doubts about how they will come out of the gates in Katowice. FaZe on the other hand seem to have figured out how to start strong and two separate wins against Liquid makes them my favourite to win this series, the odds for this are 1.80.
