Two legendary esports organisations will clash in the opening round of action at DreamHack Dallas Masters this week. The full Swedish team of Fnatic have been on the climb recently, whereas the mix of Cloud9 have had their fair share of ups and downs.
2018 was a difficult season for Fnatic, after they won their opening event of the year it all seemed to decline from there. Despite this, they still picked up several respectable placings.
Their struggles continued into 2019 though, struggling to reach top 4 in the majority of competitions. This event is the perfect opportunity for the team to try some new things and develop even further. However, they have found themselves in a rather stacked group, which will be a true test of how good they truly are.
Cloud9 showed the world that the North American CS:GO scene was no longer a laughing matter back in 2017. They won numerous events with their legendary roster but have struggled to live up to the expectations since.
Much like Fnatic, they have struggled to make a break into the top 4 at any event this year. This most recent event was Blast Pro Series Madrid. Despite finishing 5th with only one win to their game, the majority of their matches were incredibly close. Just a few rounds proved to be the difference maker when they played ENCE, Astralis and NiP.
If they can build from mistakes they picked up on at Madrid, they will come into Dallas with the potential to do some damage. With the winner of this matchup likely facing NRG in the next round, they’ll both be eager for a strong performance to get things rolling.
This is a tricky one to predict. Both teams are filled with talent but lack that bit of clutch factor and team chemistry when it comes down to the wire. I think Cloud9 will come out of the gates hot in this match and win the series. You can get outright odds of 2.75 for them to win. However, a +3.5 round handicap at 1.90 odds would be my recommendation.
