The game between MiBR and Fnatic is going to have massive implications for the outcome of Group B at the ECS Season 8 finals. I think it’s fair to say the majority believes Astralis are going to come out on top with this group. Astralis kick things off against Sharks, which should be a guaranteed win for them. Meaning, the winner of this series will advance to face Astralis in the qualification round.
It’s great to see this Brazilian squad get back into the swing of things. After seeing major success, a couple of years ago, recently they have been clouded by failures and dark patches in their history.
Despite no grand final appearances, they have still looked impressive and seem to improve at each event. I think this game against Fnaitc is the perfect opening match for them. Despite not being the favourites, they have the quality to push the game to the wire and could cause the upset.
Sometimes they can take too long to get things in motion which is the only worry I have. If they leave it to late, with it being a best of 1, they could find themselves in an elimination match rather swiftly.
It’s fair to say this roster was in a similar position as MiBR. Fnatic are one of the most historic organisations in Counter-Strike but in the past year or so have really struggled to find success. After numerous changes and adjustments to the roster, it looks like they might finally have found a recipe that works.
They lifted a trophy on home soil at DreamHack Masters Malmo and then went on to finish 2nd at StarSeries & i-League Season 8 with a grand final loss to Evil Geniuses. The recent success is why they are favourites in this series. Despite this I think they will end up being very evenly matched.
A fun little fact, these two will most likely meet in the final match of the group to determine who gets sent home and how advances to playoffs. A win here would give a mental and confidence boost for when that series comes about. I believe the best betting option here is a +2.5 round handicap in MiBR’s favour at 1.84 odds.
