FunPlus Phoenix (FPX) and J Team will battle it out once more during the final Group B matchup at the 2019 World Championships. Both teams have come into the event with high hopes and so far, it’s been somewhat positive for each of them. This game could have major implications for seeding moving into the quarter-finals.
FunPlus Phoenix (FPX)
Coming into the tournament FPX were expected to walk all over this group and finish 6-0. So far, it’s been close to the expectations but not quite the dominance many had anticipated. They actually kicked things off with a loss against their upcoming opponents, J Team. However, this time around the game could have more than bragging rights up for grabs.
There is a high chance the winner of this match will finish Group B and obtain advantageous seeding moving into the quarter-final stage of Worlds. Since the early defeat, FPX won their next two games against Splyce and GAM Esports. However, this doesn’t mean they’re back on track to beat the best teams in the world.
Although FPX will most likely be locked into the playoff stage when this game comes around, it still offers a massive confidence boost heading into these vital matches.
I don’t want to say a team at this high calibre has been a surprise, but they have shaken things up. However, their overall consistency has been called into question after the opening 3 games.
Despite their amazing victory against FPX to kick things off, they then went into their next series and lost against GAM Esports, significantly weaker opponents. We can give them the benefit of the doubt as it was their 2nd game of the tournament but it has still raised some questions.
The odds are heavily in FPX’s favour for this match and I don’t quite understand why. They can be seen as favourites however I don’t believe there’s a clear quality difference between the two teams. I believe J Team will come out on top and win the group. You can get 4.93 odds for J Team to defeat FPX.
