Liquid vs Ninjas in Pyjamas
This is the second opening match in Group A at the ECS Season 8 finals. With the other game in the group taking place prior to this, the result here could impact how the entire group plays out. Liquid are most definitely favourites, but both teams will be desperate for a win. The last thing you want, is to be potentially facing Evil Geniuses in an Elimination match.
Liquid came into the year battling with Astralis for the #1 spot in the world. They briefly held this prestigious position but have since slipped from it. Several major grand final appearances, and taking home a few Championships helped them to the rise to best in the world.
The player break that takes place in summer typically has a positive or negative for teams. In this case, I think Liquid hasn’t come back into action firing on all cylinders. We have seen some incredibly disappointing performances, especially when this is compared to the Liquid we witnessed earlier in 2019.
This event is the perfect time for them to turn things around and end 2019 on a high note. With this being one of the more stacked events talent-wise since the player break, an excellent performance here is bound to give them a confidence boost.
Ninjas in Pyjamas
It sucks to see a team be written out of a series this badly by bookmakers and fans. Overall, I’d agree with Liquid being favourites, but I don’t see it being an easy series. Ninjas in Pyjamas have spent this year rebuilding their roster and overcoming several issues.
They made a group run at the recent DreamHack Masters in Malmo and will be hoping they can replicate that success here. I think they have huge potential to cause an upset in this match-up. With it being a best of 1, if they can nail the veto and come out hot, they could catch Liquid off guard.
I still think going with Liquid as favourites in this series is a wise idea, but the odds aren’t too great for an outcome win. Also, with the idea of Ninjas in Pyjamas making it a close series, there is an alternative betting option. Consider a +5.5 round handicap in NiP’s favour at 1.52 odds.
