This matchup is potentially the most interesting of the Quarter-Finals at IEM Katowice. Renegades have proved a force since Challengers Stage. Whereas MIBR only came into the event in Legends Stage, where they weren’t overly convincing.
The Brazilian dream team has had its ups and downs this past year. They head into Champions Stage hoping to leave their mark as top dogs again. The squad is built with players that have long-term chemistry and have experienced success together. They also came into the Major as potential favourites to win the event.
It didn’t start as planned for MIBR, whatsoever. Their opening game of the tournament was against Cloud9, and they lost 16-3, ouch. They were able to rebound with a 16-9 victory against Complexity which propped them on a 1-1 record.
It was business as usual from here on out for MIBR. They came out on top in a tight game against G2 and then secured their place in Champions Stage with a 2-0 victory over NiP.
Renegades shocked a few of us with their strong performances in Legends Stage. They secured their qualification for Champions Stage with a 3-1 record. On the other hand, some favoured them to be favourites to cause an upset after their dominating 3-0 performance in Challengers.
They picked up wins against ENCE, Faze and Vitality to secure their place in the final eight of the Major. Their only loss came against Astralis in a 2-1 loss in Advancement Round 1. They’ve shown they can compete with the elite, now its time for them to topple them.
The best odds
If you’re favouring an upset, the odds are looking good for Renegades. You can get Renegades to win the series for 2.37 odds. With already defeating Faze and ENCE, two teams also in Champions Stage, they could very well defeat MIBR. If you’re feeling bold, you can get odds of 4.70 for MIBR not to win a single map.
I’m going with the underdogs in this one. I think Renegades will start their destruction of Champions with MIBR. By no means am I saying MIBR don’t stand a chance, but with how this event has progressed, a Renegades win looks on the cards.
